Scope and content
Primarily contains press cuttings on the issues surrounding the review of Britain's defence policy. This involved cuts in the budget, and the scrapping of the aircraft carrier programme in favour of fighter airplanes. This decision resulted in the resignation of Sir John David Luce, who was the First Sea Lord, and Mr Mayhew. There also followed a rumour of SZ's departure.

Britain's military involvement in foreign countries especially in the Far East, South East Asia, and areas east of Suez is hotly debated. In order to cut expenses, Britain withdraws from Aden.

The survival of the Royal Air Force, Navy and Army are highlighted in this sub-file, and related questions and answers heard in Parliament are included.
