"The Government are reviewing the whole of Britain's defence policies and commitments in an attempt to ensure that the £2,000 m budget is used to the best effect. Michael Chichester argues that the first and biggest economies should be made in the 'administrative tail'." He asks if the operational forces could not be administered more simply and more economically by a streamlined home base. The high number of employees at the four Royal Dockyards is also queried.
