Evans, Charles Leo Glandore,
Describes the reason for Mr Christopher Mayhew's resignation. He wanted the aircraft to continue in the protection of the Navy. He argued in the Commons that the Defence budget was too small if Britain was to stay East of Suez and too large if it did not. Vice-Admiral Sir Charles Evans also supported the need for aircraft carriers, a photograph of him is included. The issue of a national debate on defence issues was favoured by Denis Healey.
