Focuses on the competition between the Royal Navy, the Army, and Royal Air Force for their survival. Issues which had hampered and threatened each of the services are discussed. Mr Denis Healey tried to rationalise the Royal Air Force out of existence, the Navy was deprived of its carriers, and the Army's role outside of Europe was increasingly threatened by a Royal Marine takeover.
