Contains 57 items of general correspondence. Allan Palmer had been one of SZ’s research students at Oxford before the war. In May 1942 he returned to England with the US Army 30th General Hospital and made contact with the OEMU. In the following year he was recruited by SZ to the BSU, for which he conducted a survey of casualties sustained in the Monte Cassino action (see also SZ/BSU/6/10). In June 1944 he became Chief of the Medical Operational Research Section of the Professional Services Division, Office of the Chief Surgeon, European Theatre of Operations US Army (ETOUSA) and was involved in a variety of studies of battle casualties, both army and air (see also SZ/OEMU/54/3). The correspondence covers: Palmer’s wartime work: his subsequent contributions to History of the U.S. Army Medical Department in World WarII, part of the 91 volume official history United States Army in World War II; his subsequent career in medicine in the US; and his personal life.
