SZ was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1943, an honour that he regarded as equalled only by his appointment to the Order of Merit. Until his official retirement, SZ was active in the business of the Society. Until the end of his life he was active in nominating and supporting candidates for the Fellowship.
