The Appeal Committee was set up in 1965 under the chairmanship of the President of the Royal Society, Sir Patrick Blackett, to consider ways and means of raising the £1m. needed to convert its new premises in Carlton House Terrace and replace income from Tercentenary Appeal covenants. SZ joined the Committee in 1966.
