Scope and content
Material consists of poems and drafts of poems, manuscript and typescript. Relevant material, such as early drafts, research and notes for poems, may be found in poetry notebooks (SMa/1/1) and in the series for Diaries and Notebooks (SMa/7). The term "uncollected" has been used to distinguish these poems from those which have appeared in published collections. There is no evidence to suggest that the poems in this series have been published before, either in journals or in collections, so they can also be termed as "unpublished".

Each file corresponds to a poem. Files are organised into alphabetical order by title, as these are all uncollected poems. Untitled poems are filed after the titled poems, and are organised in alphabetical order by first line.

Material within each file is organised in chronological order, where dates are known. When dates are unknown, the order imposed by SMa is used.
