In summer 1998 Channel 4 News commissioned a series of reports on the precarious nature of 'Britishness'. The interview by Peter Morgan was recorded at W.G. Sebald's Norfolk home. This is an edited transcript of the original interview - which explored the writer's thoughts on Britain and Germany, the East Anglian landscape and the collapse of Empire. WGS also talks about his writing methods and his inventive use of photography.
