The field course had taken place at Monks Wood, Abbots Ripton. Then there was a trip to Breckland, Thetford to collect soil from a 3x3 metre sq. and analysis of the invertebrates followed. They also visited a reserve at Woodwalton Fen where the Large Copper [butterfly] had been re-established.

Describes the installation of the Chancellor. One, or all-but-one, student had their cap/s on back to front and were not following Cecil Beaton. A good nosh followed at Earlham Hall, ‘salmon & lobster salads and masses of cream trifle.’

‘Note: our Chancellor’s gown cost £100 but when Sir Alec D. Hume is installed at Edinburgh that will cost £1,000.’
