Adrian had been to town to collect a street nameplate, for erection on the English Studies block for the benefit of Prof. Iain Watt. The inscription reads: “Watt’s Court”.
‘Plans are at last afoot for a University scarf following the granting of our charter on Jan 7th – we may eventually get a coat of arms etc. eventually. Even here the V.C. is difficult – he seeks to give/sell the rights on the scarves to Norwich firms so that they wold cost us 32/6. If he would leave it to the Students Council we could get them “at cost” from the manufacturer who has promised delivery within two weeks of approval of the design.’
Mike Gibson had returned in a morose state, he was visited by Prof. Watt and had since packed up and left.
‘We’ve each of just had a letter (i.e. a sentence) from the V-C congratulating us on our impressive performance on the telly.’
‘The Union’s record player is now installed - £65 worth of hi-fi fragility. If anybody is dancing to the record the vibration through the floor throws the needle off. It also gets fantastically hot and each record has to be played separately – nothing automatic at all.’
