Contains correspondence mainly between SZ and Kendrew. Kendrew's services to the Ministry of Defence are examined in the light of his other commitments. Kendrew looks at ways to make SZ's department more efficient. He provides suggestions for restaffing the JIGSAW group and comments on the organization of the President's Advisory Committee. A list of peoples' names is considered for "a new party." Various letters of general correspondence are included. Kendrew is asked to head the department of physics at Sheffield University, he is also awarded a Royal Medal. Kendrew provides SZ with details of EMBO's schemes, and he makes suggestions for the improvement of 'Nature'.
