SZ describes his efforts to transfer Thomson. He had contacted Brigadier Schonland, Scientific Adviser to General Montgomery's Headquarters who had been in contact with Brigadier Crew of the War Office to arrange a transfer. [Allan] Palmer had also taken steps to include Thomson in the American casualty survey. Medical authorities were reluctant to release Royal Army Medical Corps personnel for scientific work. SZ mentions that General Cowell had never written to him about Thomson's posting. SZ supports the idea of Thomson going to Naples with Williams until the outcome is known.
