Emmens, Spicer and Amos had returned and Marshall was expected to be on his way back to the United Kingdom. SZ discusses the difficulties surrounding Thomson's transfer, and the efforts which were being made to include him in casualty work of the American Forces. SZ suggests that Thomson remain with Williams until things had been sorted out. Thomson's medical degree was causing the army to want him to be doing hospital work rather than scientific investigations.
SZ hopes Williams would keep the Unit going even if only in name.
