Copy [SZ/AEAF/7/1/6] is annotated by SZ, [circa 1974] "Dictated by SZ immediately after Defence Cttee of 5/4/44", and copy [SZ/AEAF/7/1/7] is annotated by SZ [circa 1974] "Immediately after meeting on April 5 1944 of Defence Cttee".
The paper refutes assertions "at the Defence Committee that with the exception of A.E.A.F. and S.H.A.E.F. all expert bodies, including the railway experts have been opposed to the [Transportation] plan", quoting the views of the Railway Executive Committee, Railway Research Service and the War Office, and those expressed at the meeting convened by the Chief of the Air Staff on 25/3/44 to discuss the AEAF plan for air attacks on rail centres in northwest Europe in support of Operation Overlord.
