After discussions with [Henry] Bryan, [the accountant], Molly Pritchard has realised Lawn Road cannot continue without further capital which she does not have. The club is costing money rather than making it. Molly takes Philip Harben to task for refusing to give a waitress a reference as she does not want the club to get a name for being difficult with staff, a name they already have locally thanks to T[om] Layton's days in charge. Molly asks whether the rumours of small portions are true, and if so, whether that explains the falling number of customers. Even "the uncomplaining Goldschmidt" felt he was receiving small portions.
