From 1937 the gastronomic provision at Lawn Road Flats was enhanced by the creation of the Isobar restaurant, run for a time by celebrity chef Philip Harben. The restaurant also hosted the activities of a dining club called the Half Hundred. The Isobar became a centre for the circle of creative men and women gathered in Hampstead at this time.
