Pritchard, John Craven, recipient
Harben notes that the Isobar has lost money in the past but believes were it not for the war a year of steady trade would put the club back on its feet. Harben's cousin, the Prime Minister's secretary, has told him that he is unlikely to be called up for some time. On the basis of that, and the fact that the property could almost be self-sufficient by growing vegetables and keeping poultry, Harben would like to work out a long term policy for the club, but only if the financial impasse can be broken. His immediate problem is paying wages, although he can hang on by stalling creditors if he receives cash for everything he sells including the staff's and Pritchard's meals.
