Scope and content
Focke writes from Erlangen, German. She is in the process of writing a biography on Wolfgang Hildesheimer. Crampton had been helping to contact old friends of Hildesheimer and provide information on him. She had sent to Focke, a letter written by Hildesheimer ‘his letter touched me and I do thank you for the great confidence you have shown to send me this letter.’

Focke comments on Henry Lea’s biography of Hildesheimer.

‘Both you and Wolf, spoke about Your Father’s Letter. Does this letter still exist? And which was his meaning for “not giving” his daughter to Wolfgang? Was the main reason the growing anti-Semitism all over?’

Focke asks about Hildesheimer's position with regards to having children and whether it was true he wished not to leave any trace after his death.

Brief mention is made of Michael Hamburger, Julian Oxford, and Waleed al Khalidi [Walid Khalidi].
