Scope and content
Crampton asks about the detail and authorisation of the biography of Wolfgang Hildesheimer by Harry Lea. She continues with details of her relationship with Hildesheimer; Julian Oxford (the Earl of Oxford and Asquith) who knew Hildesheimer from Palestine and who’s wife Hildesheimer was at one time in love with.
Crampton and Hildesheimer go their separate ways after he realises her father’s strong objection to them marrying. Crampton describes their respective relationships which followed, and the meeting of her future husband.
She met Hildesheimer again in 1981 and remained friends since.
Crampton gives her opinion on Hildesheimer's fictional biography ‘Marbot’ and his other works.
