Scope and content
Jack Hutcheson was a fan who, together with his wife Fiona, went on to become personal friends of LC. A former teacher, Jack went to school in Edinburgh and in 1992 moved just south of the city to Penicuik. His many letters to LC reflect his attachment to his pet dogs. He took up painting and writing after retirement. LC dedicated ‘Without Fail’ (2002) to Jack.

The file contains at least 90 items; mainly letters but also cards and a few emails.

Jack’s first letter to LC is dated 13/7/1999 after he had read ‘Killing Floor’. “Frankly you have the opposition in a cocked hat. Reacher of course is ace, larger than life, resourceful, confident, a little distant, yet human... I pray you never run dry.”

The file includes LC’s first reply letter to Jack Hutcheson, 2/8/1999.

The last letter from Jack is dated 15/10/2015.

Includes a synopsis of a novel by Jack ‘The Glass Eye’.
