Prof. Hinde had come from Cambridge to lecture on mother-infant interactions; Prof. Beamont (also from Cambridge) had lectured on water uptake in the pupa of the flea of the rat (from the atmosphere); and Dr Hennessy from Exeter was lecturing on Radical Student Movements in Latin America.

It was festival week in Norwich and R.S. Thomas had read poetry.
