UEASU Sabbatical and Executive manifestos, 1986-1991
Date/s
1986-1991
Scope and content
Contains manifestos including one for Kenneth [the] Gerbil. Ken was voted in as Gen. Sec. on 12/2/88 ahead of the other 5 candidates. Ken was in fact a female gerbil named Harriet. She was re-named Ken for a Rag stunt, after a former Secretary of State for Education, Kenneth Baker. The winning manifesto of Ken included providing soft loo roll and free beer.

See 'Platform' issue 5 for further news on Ken and issue 2, vol. 3 for an article on the “death” of Ken. The gerbil’s demise came about when the election was overturned and in the re-election, Ken’s owner, Julian Campbell, was elected as Gen. Sec.

The other GERBIL referred to the Great Education Reform Bill, mid 1980s [See UEA Lib/SDP Alliance, undated].
For SU manifestos from the mid 1980s see UEA/GRAY/4/1.
