SZ/ZOO/11/45 relates to the programme of scientific symposia that SZ initiated in an effort "to alter the character of Scientific Meetings. Hitherto they have been the usual mixed bag of papers selected for publication in the 'Proceedings'. What we should like to do is to arrange every alternate programme as a symposium on some selected topic of interest" [letter, SZ to various UK Professors of Zoology, 19.4.59].
