Brigadier Hassell was in Libya and had experience of desert warfare in Palestine. His brigade was also in the southern section held by the 50th Division at Gazala. His experiences of bombing in Tobruk are referred to. The effect of bombing on transport columns is explained, the conditioning of troops to bombing, and their vulnerability to low machine-gun straffing. The inefficient liaison between forward Army troops and the Air in the British forces is described.
