SZ was sorry to have missed Bernal. After a short time SZ would be returning to the Mediterranean. SZ reports that a special committee had been set up under the Chairmanship of A.V.M. Graham to deal with the neutralisation of coast defences. He discusses the efficacy of air burst bombs for attacks on gun positions of the coast defence variety, and the crater debris produced by certain bombs. The preference for larger bombs over smaller bombs is described with regard to morale effect and damage caused to coastal defences. SZ draws on the Pantelleria and Sicilian assaults to support his opinions. He also discusses his disappointment about the handling of the Tripoli report.
