Scope and content

A historical overview of the work on anti-scatter treatments for windows is presented. The requirements of various types of windows to secure them against blast is discussed. The kinds of windows mentioned include domestic and office windows, factory windows, side windows of passenger transport vehicles, shop windows, and roof-lights. Possible methods of strengthening windows and the availability and effectiveness of anti-scatter treatments are discussed. Treatments include: liquid treatments; adhesive transparent films; adhesive fabrics; and nettings. Laboratory tests are described.

Appendix A lists RC papers relating to glazing. Appendix B lists references to anti-scatter measures for glass in official literature. Illustrations of apparatus for impact tests are included, and photographs of fractured windows. Appendix C is a specification for adhesive anti-scatter fabrics.
