The variation, with the amount of aluminium added, of the initial pressures and temperatures on explosion is examined. The theory for the adiabatic expansion of the products is developed and applied to the products from charges of pure T.N.T. and T.N.T. with three different percentages of aluminium by weight. The results of the calculations are compared with recent experimental data on the underwater efficiency of aluminised explosives. Tables and graphs are included.
