All the materials tested were penetrated, except for the hippopotamus hide which was 23 mm. thick, when the steel ball struck with a velocity of 3800 feet per second. At a slightly lower velocity, the chrome steel body-armour and one of the protective waistcoats were satisfactory. A table of the results is included.
