Paper uses the data in R.C. 408 [SZ/OEMU/27/2/30-31] to assess the value of slit trenches in reducing vulnerable areas. The risk of serious injury is reduced more than the risk of slight injury. In the safest part of a trench the vulnerable area is less than one half that in the open.
