File SZ/MMT/15 relates to a public appeal for funds to erect a statue to Lord Mountbatten's memory on Foreign Office Green; this appeal was managed by the Ministry of Defence and was not related to the work of the Mountbatten Memorial Trust. SZ was canvassed by the then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, to sponsor the appeal together with Michael Foot, David Steel, and the three Service chiefs.
