The Ditchley Foundation was founded in 1958 with the object of establishing "a permanent centre for discussions and meetings to further the cause of Anglo-American understanding in all fields - academic, scientific, economic and political - using as this centre a large English country house, Ditchley Park in Oxfordshire" [brochure, 'The Ditchley Project', 1958?]. The house was given to the Foundation by H.D.W. Wills, together with a substantial endowment. There was a complementary American Ditchley Foundation. SZ was a governor of the Foundation.
