Scope and content
The Ministry of Agriculture believes that meat importers are prepared to operate a voluntary ban on imports. Meat from the Falkland Islands, although not infected, will be banned so as to avoid provoking Argentina, whose meat is infected. Trend sets out the Committee on Commercial Policy's recommendations to the Cabinet. It is hoped that a combination of prior notice and a voluntary ban will avoid serious consequences for British exports to Argentina, currently estimated at being worth £80 million.
