Scope and content
Contains correspondence and papers on the 1967-1968 foot-and-mouth outbreak including tables showing the number of cases, details of precautions taken at zoos, details of possible causes of the origin and spread, and papers on government policy. The ban on th import of foreign meat, particularly Argentinian beef, led to a debate on the effect the ban might have on Anglo-Argentinian trade, particularly the export of military equipment to Argentina, should Argentina impose retaliatory sanctions on British goods. Minutes between government ministers and officials on this matter, along with telegrams detailing the views of the Argentinian press, are also included.
