Scope and content
This series consists of correspondence to and from Sarah Maguire. Material has been organised into alphabetical order by correspondent's surname. Material within each file has been organised by chronological order, with undated material or material with uncertain dates filed after the dated material. There are eleven subseries:


SMa/11/A-D: Correspondence from people with surnames beginning with, or organisation names beginning with A-D.

SMa/11/E-H: Correspondence from people with surnames beginning with, or organisation names beginning withE-H.

SMa/11/I-L: Correspondence from people with surnames beginning with, or organisation names beginning with I-L.

SMa/11/M-P: Correspondence from people with surnames beginning with, or organisation names beginning with M-P.

SMa/11/Q-T: Correspondence from people with surnames beginning with, or organisation names beginning with Q-T.

SMa/11/U-Z: Correspondence from people with surnames beginning with, or organisation names beginning with U-Z.

SMa/11/SUR: Correspondence from people with unknown surnames, organised alphabetically by forename.

SMa/11/UNK: Correspondence from people with unknown forenames and surnames. Organised into three categories: Illegible name; Sarah Maguire sending correspondence to unknown recipient; unsigned, or signed with false names.

SMa/11/CARDS: Correspondence from people or organisations that is very short-form. Including cards, notecards, postcards and business cards. Material has been organised chronologically where dates are known, with files for undated material.


Material is primarily correspondence, but also includes related material: contracts with people and/or organisations; business cards; personal invitations including informal gatherings, although some event invitations will be found in SMa/14; invitations and orders of service for funeral and memorial services; newsletters; material relating to cover designs are editorial material from publishers; royalty statements; photographs accompanying correspondence.

Cross-referencing with other series will be necessary as there will be related material found in other series. Correspondence that includes Sarah Maguire's poetry is filed in SMa/1. Correspondence that includes literary translation work undertaken by Sarah Maguire is filed in SMa/2. Correspondence relating to the Poetry Translation Centre (PTC) is filed in SMa/3. Correspondence that includes third party works will be filed in SMa/4. Correspondence that includes reviews and articles written by Sarah Maguire will be filed in SMa/5. Correspondence that includes broadcasting work undertaken by Sarah Maguire will be filed in SMa/6, although there is much material in SMa/11/A-D/BBC. Some correspondence that relates to teaching undertaken by Sarah Maguire may be found in SMa/9. Some correspondence relating to studies undertaken by Sarah Maguire may be found in SMa/10. Some correspondence including reviews and press cuttings relating to Sarah Maguire and/or her work may be found in SMa/12. Correspondence relating to personal papers will be found in SMa/13, especially relating to Sarah Maguire's health, finances, and parents' personal papers. Correspondence relating to events may be found in SMa/14. Correspondence relating to travel may be found in SMa/15.
