Professor Stefan Muthesius is an architectural and design historian who has taught at UEA and is now Honorary Professor. Included in this collection are research papers, correspondence, interviews and proofs for the publication of his book ‘Concrete and Open Skies : architecture at the University of East Anglia, 1962-2000’ (with Peter Dormer, 2001).
Other research papers relate to the architecture of UK and West German universities in the 1960s, as well as in France, the US and Canada; and post WWII council housing, particularly in London. The papers complement the publications of : ‘The Post-War University. Utopianist Campus and College’ (2000); and ‘Tower Block: Modern Public Housing in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland’ (with Miles Glendinning, 1994).
Included in the original deposit were important original documents from UEA Estates Archive (Transferred to collection UEA/EST).
The papers were lodged with the UEA Archive in 2004 and formally gifted in May 2008. Additional boxes were added to series SM/B in 2019.
