Lawn Road Flats -- Tenants
Rowntree, Diana. recipient
Written in response to Games' article of 2/8/79, [PP/23/4/35-36]. The article includes two letters, one written by Diana Rowntree and the other by Jack Pritchard. Rowntree defends Games' reference to the Flats being an object of propaganda or that an artistic clique lived there. The refugees from Germany appreciated the "human and intellectual values" to be found at Lawn Road. She writes that Lawn Road was "a symbol of intellectual and political faith", and she defends Coates in the accusation that he was not an architect because he did not have a degree. Pritchard's letter informs Games of the wall thicknesses in the flats, and that the building was not made from untried materials. He also mentions that the BBC studio designed by Coates was not "deco". A photograph of Lawn Road Flats is included in the article.
