Scope and content
The Lawn Road Flats being one of the first of its kinds in England, is described as "a form of human nest-building....It consists of a four-storey structure of somewhat fortress type of ferro-concrete." It is acknowledged however that "a nest of flats may be all too austere without, but temptingly comfortable within." The flats' concept is described as "a stairless dwelling, approachable by lifts, and projecting itself beyond the outward walls by means of cantilevered balconies."
