Typed copy of a lecture given by Jack Pritchard [at the International Congress of Furniture Manufacturers of the Union EuropeƩnne de l'Ameublement, in Stockholm]. "It is concerned with the influence on the shape of furniture by those who have applied systematic thought - scientific thought - in the broadest sense." Jack Pritchard "gives examples of a few new materials that have had an effect on the design of furniture." He argues that the impact of a scientific approach has had a profound effect on the design of furniture and that this will increase rapidly. Jack Pritchard suggests ways in which the Furniture Industry can benefit from this. Notes contain illustrations and three loose monochrome photographs: Fig. 5. "Desk made in London, c1930"; Fig. 13. "A fine Jacobsen chair manufactured by Fritz Hansen in Denmark in 1958", photographed by Kenneth Prater; and Fig. 27. "Chippendale table, c1750". Note inserted "3 versions of this paper sent to Jack Pritchard 1/11/81"
