The Translators’ Association is part of the Society of Authors.
Following a review of her translation of 'Naked in Piccadilly' (1961), PC was approached by George Astley who invited her to join the TA.
PC was chair of the TA three times during her career, and whilst in office, 1970-90s, successfully campaigned for translators’ copyright and for payment under Public Lending Right.
The first meeting of the TA (described then as the Translators Committee) was on 10 April 1957, with Guy Chapman in the Chair. Its first General Meeting was on 1/7/1957 or 1958.
CONTENTS:
Includes correspondence with Gordon Fielden and George Astley. There is overlap here with Society of Authors which is closely aligned.
Includes some letters from Anthony Vivis and also mentions Max Sebald.
Model contracts for translator-publisher, includes letter by Anthony Vivis.
Should the TA stay in FIT? Opinions of Veronica Lawson (vice-president of FIT), 1987.
‘The Importance of Copyright for Translators’, by Gordon Fielden, Secretary of the Translators’ Association, 1995. Draft article, annotated.
