Includes early correspondence with ‘Ran’ Meinertzhagen (Richard Meinertzhagen’s son) including his approach to MC to write a biography of his father; MC’s CV; correspondence concerning the progress of the biography and expected earnings; letters reflecting the concerns held by Ran about the book; correspondence with agent Andrew Lownie of John Farquharson Ltd; correspondence with Nicholas Meinertzhagen (Richard Meinertzhagen’s nephew); authorisation letter from the solicitors of the Meinertzhagen estate giving permission for the publishing of the biography in paperback (letter 20/12/89); an approach by MC to Ran about the publishing of Richard Meinertzhagen’s unpublished travel diaries (letter 28/3/90); a letter (3/6/94) from Ram objecting to the unwelcome publicity surrounding his father in response to a Telegraph article; a letter (2001) from Ran stating that the Meinertzhagen family did not welcome a second edition of MC’s book.
