Until this point Reacher had never let him down. “I suppose it was brain gas, to be polite, because it could easily have been written around without the flaw.” At the end of chapter 40 Reacher is slow to fetch his Glock pistol when a Mazda turns up with a protagonist and his shotgun in it. “Then things went to hell predictably.”
