Shirley is in her seventies “I have been going to bed with ‘you’ for years now … lying down with my hands all over you, falling asleep at last and waking with ‘you’ in my arms.” The relationship has been long, satisfying but sleepless and she has discovered that her neighbour, in her eighties, is also ‘sleeping’ with LC’s novels. She asks LC to assassinate Jack Reacher as he has become an addiction and she has lost too much sleep.
