Letter, 22/4/2007. TS. Pete is disappointed when Reacher cuts and runs at the end of ‘The Hard Way’. None of Reacher’s slightly softer side showed through when he abruptly leaves Pauling without closure. She had risked her own life for him. Pete provides a couple of paragraphs of how it might have ended more satisfactorily. He suggests Reacher send anonymously, a gun with a note “The perfect weapon for a perfect woman. I couldn’t have done it without you.” [Pete’s surname is unclear from his writing].
