2015
Reacher, Jack (fictitious character)
Letter, 14/10/2015. MS. 1 leaf, written on recto and verso. Cora had just arrived in Melbourne and borrowed ‘A Wanted Man’ from the library. Four years prior, at the age of 21, Cora set off on a 3-month adventure to the US. Before leaving, she asked her Dad to recommend a book, her father handed her ‘Die Trying’. She has now spent three summers in the US and each time she makes sure she has a Jack Reacher novel with her. “Travelling at times can be a lonely and even scary business, I’ve seen myself in situations that could be right out of a novel.” Each time she finds herself in a ‘situation’ she simply thinks to herself “What would Jack Reacher do?”.
Instead of returning home to Scotland this time, she’d booked to go straight from the US to Australia. Now after many months of travelling and arriving in a whole new country, she picked up ‘A Wanted Man’ and reading the first page reminded her of her travel companion, Jack Reacher. Suddenly she didn’t feel so overwhelmed, she just thought of Reacher finishing one adventure and moving on to the next. She looks forward to beginning a new adventure in Australia.
