Norm Corbin (Mass.)
2015
Printed email, 18/5/2015. Norm enjoyed ‘Personal’ which was recommended to him by a friend because of the reference to Transparent Aluminium Oxynitride (ALON). Norm is curious why LC referenced a glass manufacturer in France for its discovery and development. The transparency of ALON was patented by Norm and a colleague in 1980 and published in the American Ceramic Society in 1979. He includes patent details and a reprint of the journal article. The technology was later sold to a company who manufactured large plates of ALON for transparent armour applications. Norm would enjoy meeting LC if he was in the Boston area. He expects the engineers at Raytheon Corporation and Surmet would also.
