Letter, 14/8/2013. MS. With envelope. Cal is 86 and recently widowed. He wants LC to know how much he has impacted his life “in a very meaningful way”. He asks whether LC had in mind his own “Sweetheart” or his loving daughter, Ruth, when writing.
Cal includes two pages from his journal dated 14/8/2013. Cal is recently bereaved of his sweetheart of 66 years, Norma. He is struck by the deep insight in ‘Tripwire’: “There was nothing he had neglected to tell her. People live, and then they die, and as long as they do both things properly, there is nothing much to regret.” The letter ends: “Thank you all our children. Thank you Lee Child.” The signed name is painted over with white correction fluid.
