Letter, 4/6/2002. TS. Mary is disappointed with ‘Without Fail’. There are too many characters and not enough of Reacher. He seems to be playing a secondary character. All the action comes at the end and there is too much time spent in conference rooms. ‘Killing Floor’ was written in the first person, which Mary liked. In ‘Without Fail’ we don’t know what he is thinking.
Letter, 16/6/2003. Mary suggests the perfect actor to play Reacher. “David Morse. He is big enough, not pretty-boy handsome but solid, and yet a good actor … Please Mr Child, no Brad Pitt-Tom Cruise, et al types here.”
