Scope and content
001 is a letter from Annie Morgan to Doris Lessing, requesting help to write a biography of Lessing that has been commissioned by publisher Junction Books. She expresses an interest in Lessing's use of myths and legends, and states that she researched fairy painting and literature at university. Lessing hand writes [date of reply] "3.8.80".

002 is a letter from Morgan to Lessing, thanking her for her reply, which was evidently a rejection. She states that she and her publisher did not want to offend Lessing and would not write the book without her cooperation. She states that her readers only want "confirmation or clarification of ideas expressed in your works". She says she will not include biographical details that Lessing considers irrelevant. Morgan thanks Lessing over two paragraphs for her contribution to literature, ending on the pathetic note: "Perhaps it is the partial seers who make the best novelists? But I suppose I will never know."
