Scope and content
001 is a form letter from Stephen Spender to Doris Lessing. Spender requests Lessing supply text for an illustration of the letter ‘P’ in David Hockney’s book, Hockney’s Alphabet, intended to raise funds and awareness for AIDS Crisis Trust. A personal note adds: “My wife and I haven’t seen you for 20 years perhaps – when you dined with us. I do hope we meet in this world once (or twice) again.”

002 is a print of artwork by Hockney.

004 is a carbon copy of Lessing’s submission, listing different recipes for cooking pumpkin.
